Disadvantaged agricultural area was first introduced in Ireland in 1975 and was based on a range of socio-economic factors.  At present, over 5 million hectares are designated as disadvantaged under the scheme.  An official from my Department has forwarded a copy of the current map of designated land directly to the Deputy.
