Responsibility for the LEADER programme transferred to my Department in the middle of 2016, having come under the remit of the former Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government prior to that point. I understand that, in the main, audits of the LEADER programme during the period 2006-2013 were undertaken by bodies such the Comptroller and Auditor General, the European Commission, the European Court of Auditors, the Internal Audit Unit of the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, and certifying bodies contracted to oversee expenditure under Ireland’s Rural Development Programme. In addition, each Government Department responsible for LEADER during the period 2006 to 2013 had an internal audit function that would have periodically engaged with the LEADER Programme.

My Department does not have information regarding the cost of such audits carried out on the LEADER programme during the period in question.
