In relation to the responsibilities of my Department, the Sports Capital Programme (SCP) is the primary vehicle for Government support for the development of sports and physical recreation facilities and the purchase of non-personal sports equipment throughout the country. While the Programme only funds projects that are sporting in nature, many facilities that are funded have wider community usage. These include sports halls that are also used for dance or drama classes, public meetings or other social gatherings. The 2017 SCP is now closed for applications. Any organisation interested in applying for funding under future rounds should register first at www.sportscapitalprogramme.ie
