The Aquaculture Licences Appeals Board (ALAB) is an independent authority for the determination of appeals against decisions of the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine on aquaculture licence applications and was established on 17 June 1998 under Section 22 of the Fisheries (Amendment) Act, 1997. All Board members are engaged on a part-time basis.

The Sea Fisheries Policy & Management Division (Marine Agencies Unit) is responsible for oversight of the corporate governance of ALAB.
