To ask the Minister for Education and Skills the approximate cost of the programme for Government commitment to achieving cumulative apprenticeship registrations and traineeship enrolments of 50,000 in the period 2016 to 2020; and the approximate cost to the State of training an apprentice. Based on the targets set out in the Action Plan to Expand Apprenticeship and Traineeship 2016-2020, it is estimated that the cost of apprenticeship and traineeship provision in 2020 will rise to approximately €260m.  The estimated average cost to the state of training an apprentice is approximately €6,500 per annum.
