My Department allocated funding over the past 10 years for third level research and development. The details of the funding per year over the last 10 years are as follows:

- 2017 - €40.6m (provision)

- 2016 - €37.6m

- 2015 - €37.6m

- 2014 - €37.6m

- 2013 - €37.6m

- 2012 - €37.6m

- 2011 - €38.5m

- 2010 - €52.21m

- 2009 - €86.989m

- 2008 - €76.293m

The reductions in the funding in 2010 and 2011 was mainly the result of the transfer of functions (PRTLI, e journals and strand 2 of the TSR) to the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation.
