To ask the Taoiseach and Minister for Defence the estimated cost of restoring the option of allowing personnel to do an extra four years service upon completion of their 21 years contract, based on the average number of personnel that availed of this extension of service in the five years leading up to 1997. The military authorities have advised that there is no record of a four year extension option being offered to personnel who completed 21 years service in the Defence Forces in the five years leading up to 1997. However, if the Deputy can provide any further clarification on the matter to my Office I will have it examined further.
