259. To ask the Minister for Social Protection the relevance of details in respect of their medical condition and costs associated therewith as requested in the case of a person (details supplied) regarding the determination of their entitlement to jobseeker's allowance under investigation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The person concerned was requested to provide proof that she attended a medical consultation in her homeland as well as a letter from her GP confirming fitness to work. This is a requirement for receipt of jobseeker’s allowance payment. The associated medical costs were not questioned. The person concerned was requested to provide proof of how the trip to her homeland was paid for. This is a fair and reasonable request as the person concerned was in receipt of a means tested payment.

I hope this clarifies the matter for the Deputy.
