I propose to take Questions Nos. 552 and 554 together.

The particular case raised is a matter for Irish Rail and I have forwarded the Deputy's question to the Company for direct reply. Please advise my private office if you do not receive a response within ten working days.

On the more general point, the Deputy may wish to know that Student Leap Card is Ireland's national student travel and discount card available to all second-and third-level students in full time education. The card functions as both a pre-paid travel ticket as any other Leap card and also as student identification for the purposes of purchasing student discounted tickets. Details are available on the website: 

In addition to the above, Iarnród Éireann's website () clearly lists a number of other identification options for second-level students to use in order to avail of student fares on our rail network. Of course students under 16 are classed as children on the inter-city rail network and can avail of child fares.
