543. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport his views on the requirement for safety equipment, such as fire extinguishers and first aid boxes, in taxis, in view of the fact some taxi drivers are not qualified to use the equipment; if there are any recorded incidents of fire extinguishers being discharged by accident or vandalism in taxis; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The regulation of the small public service vehicle industry, including issues pertaining to vehicle requirements, is a matter for the National Transport Authority (NTA) under the provisions of the Taxi Regulation Act 2013.

I have therefore referred your question to the NTA for direct reply to you. Please advise my private office if you do not receive a response within 10 working days.
