There is a Private Members Bill to introduce a prohibition of the exploration and extraction of onshore petroleum being considered by the Oireachtas.  The Bill has passed its second stage reading in Dáil Eireann. While the passing of all legislation is a matter for the Oireachtas, the Government has indicated its support for the objective of the Bill.

There is no proposed alternative Government Bill to introduce a ban on fracking.
