The change in circumstances referred to by the Deputy relates to an amalgamation of three schools namely: Vocational School Kildare, St. Joseph’s Academy and Presentation Secondary School, into one new school namely: Kildare Town Community School.

Vocational School Kildare and St. Joseph’s Academy had DEIS status prior to the amalgamation. However, the new school, Kildare Town Community School, does not have DEIS status. The Department of Education and Skills informed the amalgamating schools that the new school would be given interim DEIS status until August 2017. This was to ensure that all pupils joining the new school from the amalgamated schools with DEIS status would continue to have DEIS supports until they completed their schooling.
