415. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport his plans to alter the existing sentencing range for persons convicted of dangerous driving causing death; if he will explain the current system; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9391/17]

The Road Traffic Act as amended sets out the penalties for dangerous driving where the consequences are death or serious bodily harm. Upon conviction by the court, the penalties are a fine up to a maximum of €20,000 and/or a custodial sentence of up to 10 years. Sentencing is at the discretion of the courts. I have no plans to change this at the current time.
