337. To ask the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht when the register for protected cultural items was most recently reviewed; the criteria by which additional items can be added to the register; the means by which an application can be made to add to the register; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Section 48 of the National Cultural Institutions Act 1997 provides for the establishment of a Register of cultural objects and the registration of objects thereto.

Section 49 of that Act details the legislative criteria by which items can be added to the Register. The Register was most recently considered by my Department when I made the decision to include a surrender letter written by Padraig Pearse in the aftermath of the Easter Rising to the Register in December last year.
