To ask the Minister for Health the number of persons under 16 years of age with a long-term illness card for the medical condition mental illness per CHO in 2016 and to date in 2017; if there are young persons between 16 and 18 years of age with a long-term illness card and, if so, the number; his plans to increase the age to 18 years of age for this card for the medical condition mental illness; the cost of such an expansion; and if he will make a statement on the matter. There are no plans to amend the list of conditions covered by the Long Term Illness Scheme.

Under the Health (Pricing and Supply of Medical Goods) Act 2013, the HSE has statutory responsibility for the administration of the community drug schemes; therefore, the matter has been referred to the HSE for attention and direct reply to the Deputy.
