As the Deputy is aware, under the provisions of the Courts Service Act 1998, management of the courts, including the provision of information on the courts system, is the responsibility of the Courts Service which is independent in exercising its functions.
However, in order to be of assistance to the Deputy, I have had enquiries made and the Courts Service has informed me that the table below sets out the information sought in relation to the number of fines imposed, the value of fines imposed, the number of fines paid and the value of fines paid in respect of all cycling offences during 2015/2016.
Year | No. of Fines Imposed | Value of Fines Imposed | No. of Fines Paid | Value of Fines Paid |
---|---|---|---|---|
January – December 2015 | 101 | €13,785.00 | 43 | €4,410.00 |
January – December 2016 | 121 | €20,718.00 | 29 | €3,650.00 |
In addition to court imposed fines, members of An Garda Síochána can issue on the spot fines to cyclists. The data in relation to An Garda Síochána is currently being compiled and I will arrange for it to be forwarded to the Deputy as soon as it is to hand.
