774. To ask the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht if her Department has received the method statement promised last autumn for the upgrade of the Bunnakill to Maam Cross section of the N59; if not, if Galway County Council has indicated when it will provide this to her Department; if received, when it is hoped to give a detailed response to the method statement; and if she will make a statement on the matter. 775. To ask the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht the updated position on discussions taking place between her Department and Galway County Council on the upgrade of the N59 road from Maam Cross to Clifden and the environmental challenges that have arisen; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I propose to take Questions Nos. 774 and 775 together.

In relation to the method statements for the Bunakill to Maam Cross section of the N59 upgrade, my Department has not yet received these method statements. The Department understands that Galway County Council is in the process of procuring engineers to prepare these statements. It is further understood that these engineers should be appointed shortly. As regards the Maam Cross to Clifden section of the N59, my Department has maintained contact with the Council and I understand that the Council is currently considering which sections of this project can be progressed quickly while in parallel developing plans for delivery of the entire portion of this route.
