The flood defence embankment referred to by the Deputy does not form part of an Office of Public Works Arterial Drainage Scheme and as such this Office is not responsible for its maintenance.
I am advised that the embankment at this location is referred to as a “Land Commission” embankment. While there is no statutory obligation of the State for the maintenance of this embankment, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine does provide some administrative arrangements, including acting as a Public Trustee to manage the funds held in trust towards the maintenance costs that may arise for some of these embankments.
