The European Union (Good Agricultural Practice for Protection of Waters) Regulations 2014, as amended, give legal effect in Ireland to the Nitrates Directive and to our Nitrates Action Programme (NAP). Local authorities, acting under the general supervision of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), are the competent authorities for enforcing the Nitrates Regulations; my Department does not have a direct role in this regard. However, I understand that Longford County Council has looked into the complaint raised and has advised that, following an inspection, it is satisfied that there is no breach of the Nitrates Regulations in this matter.
