The use of particular means of communication by members of An Garda Síochána in particular circumstances is an operational matter and policy and practice in this regard are for the Garda Commissioner to determine. I am advised by the Garda Authorities that An Garda Síochána are currently compiling a report for the Policing Authority and myself in relation to email usage and also access to and usage of commercial email services by the organisation.

They expect to be in a position to submit this report shortly.
