110. To ask the Minister for Social Protection the reason a person (details supplied) has had an eight week delay for receipt of a disability allowance back payment having been notified by the social protection appeals office that the appeal was successful on 14 September 2016 and despite the fact that the extenuating circumstances surrounding applicant's finances have been communicated to his Department on more than one occasion; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I confirm my department received notification that this lady’s appeal was successful on 19 September 2016. On 5 October 2016, a deciding officer implemented the appeals officer’s decision and the person concerned was notified of this on that date. The first payment was made by her chosen payment method on 2 November 2016.
This lady was in receipt of another social welfare payment during the period 18 November 2015 to 9 November 2016. The amount of social welfare already paid required to be confirmed and deducted from any arrears due. This process was completed by my department as quickly as possible. Disability allowance arrears issued to the person in question on 21 November 2016.
I trust this clarifies the matter for the Deputy.
