To ask the Minister for Justice and Equality if her attention has been drawn to the fact that there are reports that a person (details supplied) is on hunger strike in Globe House direct provision centre, Sligo; if her attention has further been drawn to the fact that there is growing concern in regard to the deterioration in the person's health; the action her Department is taking in regard to the matter; and if she will make a statement on the matter. While I am aware of the issue raised by the Deputy, it is important to remember that Section 19 of the Refugee Act of 1996 (as amended) requires the State to take all practical steps to ensure that the identity of protection applicants is kept confidential. I am therefore restricted in commenting on individual cases.

What I can say is that staff of my Department, staff at Globe House, medical professionals, legal professionals and other on-the-ground service providers linked with Globe House have provided a series of medical and legal supports and assistance to the person in question in view of their concern for the person's health and well-being. I am happy to report that the person in question has recently decided to cease the protest and is now choosing to avail of the services available to them.
