271. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the number of approved driving instructors for cars currently in the State; if his attention has been drawn to the number of those instructors who are franchisees of a company (details supplied); the percentage of the overall essential driver training lessons accounted for by these franchisees; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Oversight of the system of Approved Driving Instructors (ADIs) is the statutory responsibility of the Road Safety Authority, and I have no role in these matters.  I have therefore referred the Question to the Authority for direct reply.  I would ask the Deputy to contact my office if a response has not been received within ten days.
