315. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the status on resolving the issue that arose earlier in 2016 whereby refresher courses provided by the National Maritime College of Ireland were not recognised by the Marine Survey Office, while they were recognised in the UK; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Particular issues have arisen in relation to certifications purportedly provided under the authority of the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency. These matters have been the subject of correspondence between my Department and, inter alia, the UK authorities. Arising from the correspondence, which remains open, and its consideration in my Department, a number of meetings with interested parties have taken place, most recently on 17thOctober last.
I believe that substantial progress has been made in the course of the meetings and I am confident that the matter can be resolved.
