155. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills the reason for the delay in the construction of a new Gaelscoil (details supplied); if his attention has been drawn to the serious and urgent need for the new school building in view of the standard of existing accommodation; if his Department will provide the necessary funding to progress this project; the timeframe for completion of the project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The school referred to by the Deputy has submitted an application to my Department for a new school building. The Deputy will be aware that my Department’s current priority is focused on the provision of essential classroom accommodation to meet demographic demand and this will be the main focus for capital investment in the coming years.
As a project for the two teacher school in question was not included in my Department’s 6 year Construction Programme (2016-2021), it is not possible to provide an indicative timeframe for the progression of a building project for the school at this time.
