To ask the Minister for Justice and Equality the number of life sentence prisoners in custody in 2015; the breakdown of the number of life sentence prisoners in custody convicted of murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, sexual offences and any other offence; if, in the case of any other offence, she will specify the offence; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I can advise the Deputy that the number of persons serving a life sentence on the 31 December 2015 was 342. A breakdown of the offences is included in the following table.

I can advise the Deputy that the number of persons serving a life sentence on the 30 September 2016 was 347, of which 336 were male and 11 female.
