48. To ask the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources the detail of the national strategic risks identified by him in the draft national risk assessment report concerned with climate change; and his plans to deal with such risks. [31823/16]

The risks identified in the Draft National Risk Assessment 2016, published by the Department of the Taoiseach (see link attached ), relate to a range of matters including projected impacts arising from climate change, investment in mitigation and adaptation measures and potential costs arising from compliance with 2020 and 2030 greenhouse gas emission reduction targets.

The policy response in relation to tackling both the mitigation and adaptation aspects of climate change underlying these risks has been in development for a number of years, having regard to EU and international obligations, national policy and more recent legislative provision. Taken together, these and other measures form part of a long-term strategy to pursue substantial decarbonisation of the energy, transport and built environment sectors and carbon neutrality in the agriculture and land sector. They will also assist our towns and cities to adapt to the future impacts that climate change will bring and ultimately build a level of climate resilience that society will require in the future.
