To ask the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources if Brexit will have any implications for the North-South Interconnector project which, if it gets the go ahead, will see a 400kV powerline run cross-Border through Counties Cavan and Monaghan; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The North-South Interconnector will provide a second high capacity link between the electricity systems in Ireland and Northern Ireland and will accordingly increase the efficiency of the all-island Single Electricity Market and security of electricity supply and also allow greater levels of renewable energy be connected to the grid. I envisage no impact from Brexit on the North-South Interconnector project.

The project is in currently the planning process in both jurisdictions with a decision on the section in Ireland by An Bord Pleanála due by 21 December as indicated on their website.
