81. To ask the Minister for Justice and Equality the number of gardaí serving in Store Street, Bridewell and Mountjoy Street stations in tabular form; the number of these gardaí permitted and trained to drive Garda vehicles; the number of such trained gardaí in each station on duty at any particular shift; and if she is satisfied that the numbers of gardaí in these stations have been restored. As the Deputy will appreciate, it is the Garda Commissioner who is responsible for the distribution of resources, including personnel, among the various Garda Divisions and I, as Minister, have no direct role in the matter. I am assured by the Garda Commissioner that the allocation of members is continually monitored and reviewed taking into account all relevant factors including crime trends, demographics, and security assessments relating to the area in question so as to ensure optimal use is made of Garda human resources.

I have been informed by the Garda Commissioner that the stations in question form part of the Dublin Metropolitan Region (DMR) North Central Garda Division and that the number of Gardaí assigned to the Division on the 31 August 2016, the latest date for which figures are readily available, was 604; together with 49 reserves and 36 civilians. The following table sets out the distribution of the members. With regard to the query in relation to the number of these Gardaí permitted and trained to drive Garda vehicles, and the number of such trained Gardaí in each station on duty at any particular shift, I have requested this information from the Garda Authorities and will update the Deputy when it is to hand.
