Domiciliary Care Allowance Applications

680. To ask the Minister for Social Protection the number of persons who have applied for domiciliary care allowance over the past four years; the number of people refused this allowance over this period; the number of decisions taken to the courts by these persons, if any; and to provide a breakdown on the different medical conditions of those applying and the medical conditions of those refused the allowance. The details requested on Domiciliary Care Allowance applications made over the past four years are set out in the table:

Since 2012, there have been a total of 6 Judicial reviews of DCA decisions.

Statistics on the disabilities of the child being applied for are not routinely collated and as a result are not available. Eligibility for the scheme is based on the level of additional care required resulting from the disability and not the type of disability itself.
