The purpose of the Mortgage Allowance Scheme is to assist householders who are tenants of local authority houses or dwellings provided by approved voluntary housing bodies to become owner-occupiers of other dwellings, thereby surrendering their house to the local authority or approved housing body. Thescheme is administered by the relevant local authority.Under the Social Housing Current Expenditure Programme, local authorities source properties under long-term lease arrangements from a range of sources, includingapproved housing bodies. Tenants should enquire with their local authority as to their eligibility for this financial assistance.
