159. To ask the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform the number of new recruits to the Civil Service, in each of the years 2011 to 2013; the number of whole-time equivalent recruits and the overall number of public service employees at the end of each of these years. [21419/16]

According to data held centrally by my Department, which draws on HR information provided by each Government Department, in 2011 the number of new recruits into the Civil Service was just over 600, the full-time equivalent of which was just under 430. In 2012, almost 800 people were recruited into some 640 full-time equivalent positions, and in 2013 just over 800 were recruited to fill 680 full-time equivalent positions.

In the broader Public Service, the overall number of employees by sector (on a full-time equivalent basis) at the end of each of the years 2011-2013 was as follows:
