Under Regulation 3(1), of theNational Archives Act, 1986,Regulations, 1988, the Secretary General of each Department must appoint one or more Certifying Officers to be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the Act and Regulations in the Department. The Secretary General in my Department has appointed a number of Certifying Officers across the business areas of the Department of Social Protection.

As with all areas of the Department, the Secretary General constantly reviews staffing and resources and will continue to do so in the light of changed circumstances in any areas of the Department’s remit, including any future changes to the application of the National Archives Act, 1986 or the relevant protocols.
