644. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the number of staff employed in his Department's Archive Unit in each of the years 2010 to 2016 to date, in tabular form; his plans to expand this number; if there are protocol changes arising from changes to the National Archive Acts; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department does not have a dedicated National Archives Unit. Responsibility for the oversight of the Department's duties under the National Archive Act 1986 and related National Archive Regulations is managed as part of the overall wider responsibilities of the Department's Policy and Governance Coordination Division.

Under Departmental procedures for the management of national archives, each Head of Function is designated as a Certifying Officer with responsibility for discharging statutory national archive obligations within her/his functional area. These functional areas together cover all aspects of the Department's functions.

The Department's procedures and oversight arrangements, including staffing needs, will continue to be kept under review in light of evolving circumstances, including any new legislative requirements.
