274. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if he will ensure a text and e-mail are issued to holders of driving licences six months in advance of their expiry date, given that persons driving on a lapsed licence are not covered by insurance and that each year many persons find that their licence has expired and that they have been driving without a valid licence. This is an operational matter for the National Driver Licensing Service, which is the statutory responsibility of the Road Safety Authority. I have therefore referred the question to the Authority for direct reply. I would ask the Deputy to contact my office if a response has not been received within ten days.
