326. To ask the Minister for Social Protection if he has received an application from a person (details supplied) under the invalidity pension scheme; when he will make a decision on it; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11740/16]

Invalidity pension (IP) is a payment for people who are permanently incapable of work because of illness or incapacity and who satisfy the pay related social insurance (PRSI) contribution conditions.
A claim for IP was received from the person in question on the 27 April 2016. My department is currently assessing the person’s medical eligibility and will be in touch with him shortly about this.
In the meantime, the person concerned is in receipt of a weekly illness benefit payment.
I hope this clarifies the matter for the Deputy.
