464. To ask the Minister for Health the reason emergency ambulances are disallowed from transporting patients from home to district or community hospitals, even though they are requested to do so by a local general practitioner; the reason in one case the emergency ambulance arrived to take a patient to the local district hospital two miles away; when the ambulance staff realised that the patient was to be taken to a district hospital, they said they were debarred from doing this and could only take the patient to a hospital with an accident and emergency department; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
