138. To ask the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform for a breakdown of salaries across the public service, including the number of employees affected by financial emergency measures in the public interest who are earning up to €22,000, from €22,001 to €30,000, €30,001 to €40,000, €40,001 to €50,000, €50,001 to €60,000, €60,001 to €70,000, €70,001 to €100,000, €100,000 to €120,000 and €120,000 to €500,000. The nearest data currently available within the Department to that sought by the Deputy is the estimated breakdown of public servant numbers on a whole time equivalent basis (based on a whole time equivalent figure of 294,500) by salary range within the public service at end September 2015 and is set out in table.

The Deputy will be aware that in June 2011 the Government introduced a general pay ceiling of €200,000 for future appointments to higher positions across the public service and a general pay ceiling of €250,000 forfuture appointments to CEO posts within Commercial State Companies.
