A decision to reduce the number of air routes covered by PSO services, including the Derry-Dublin route, was taken in 2011. This followed on from the recommendations of a Value for Money Review of Exchequer support for the Regional Airports Programme, which took into account a number of factors including the performance of the services and the need to make best use of limited Exchequer resources. Exchequer subvention for PSO air services on the Derry/Dublin* route from 2006 to 2011 is set out in the table:

PSO subvention€'000201120102009200820072006
Derry/Dublin1,387**2,4162,3762,3902,5892,467

*Note: For the years 2006-2011, the Derry/Dublin PSO route was operated together with the Knock/Dublin PSO route under a single contract. Contractual payments for services provided on both routes for the years in question were: 2006 - €3,979,121 ; 2007 - € 4,176,383 ; 2008 - €3,895,500 ; 2009 - € 4,242,970 ; 2010 - € 4,314,996 ; and 2011 - €  2,477,537. The figures in the above table represent estimates of the proportion of contractual payments applicable to the Derry/Dublin route.

**Contract ended in July 2011.
