478. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills if she will provide, in tabular form, per county, the number of applications received for each of the years 2013, 2014 and 2015 under the primary school transport scheme; the total number of these applications that were deemed to be ineligible for each of these years; the total number of ineligible applications that were refused due to a determination that an applicant was not attending their nearest school as per the rules governing the scheme; and if she will make a statement on the matter. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills the number of applications received under the post primary school transport scheme, including the number which were deemed to be ineligible, and the number of ineligible applications which were refused due to applicants not attending their nearest school by county, for each of the years 2013 to 2015, in tabular form; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I propose to take Questions Nos. 478 and 479 together.

Bus Éireann has advised that the level of detailed information requested by the Deputy is not readily available.

However, the number of new applications for school transport received for the three years in question was in the region of 2/3,000 for primary schools and 6/7,000 for post primary schools. Children who are already availing of a school transport service do not need to re-apply each year. In total some 113,000 children are currently availing of school transport services.
