314. The National Council for Special Education (NCSE), through its network of local Special Educational Needs Organisers (SENOs) will be engaging with schools for 2016/17 school year in order to plan for, and to open, new special classes, in order to ensure there are sufficient placements available to meet demand in an area.

Although a SENO has been assigned to the school in question the responsibility for the staffing of the school remains currently with my Department.

The SENO will collaborate with my Department on the staffing requirements for the school.

If the requirement for a new class is identified by the SENO my Department has capacity to establish a new class, if necessary, subject to the readiness of the school to open an additional class.
