16. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if he is satisfied with his role in upholding the Air Navigation (Carriage of Munitions of War, Weapons and Dangerous Goods) Order 1973 in relation to the use of Shannon Airport by civil aircraft used by foreign militaries; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The primary purpose of the Air Navigation (Carriage of Munitions of War, Weapons and Dangerous Goods) Order 1973, as amended, is ensuring the safety of aircraft and those on board.

My Department carries out appropriate consultations with other Departments and agencies in relation to applications for permits under the Order. The applications are then processed, taking account of these consultations.  I am satisfied that this role is carried out correctly.
