205. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills the number of over-subscribed primary schools according to the latest information available to her Department; the proportion of primary schools that are over-subscribed; a list of the schools in question, including addresses, in tabular form; the patron body of these schools; and the extent of over-subscription in each case, by pupil numbers if available, or by any other measure if not. It is the responsibility of the managerial authority of each individual school to implement an enrolment policy in accordance with the Education Act, 1998.

There is no requirement on those schools that have more applicants than places available to report to my Department in relation to same. Accordingly the data requested by the Deputy is not available within my Department.

However, the Deputy may be aware that, based on ESRI research conducted in 2009, it is estimated that circa 80% of primary and post-primary schools enrol all pupils who apply each year for enrolment, while selection criteria are used in the other 20%.
