Since 2006 the Teaching Council is the body with statutory authority for registration of teachers in the State.
I have asked the Teaching Council to provide the information requested directly to the Deputy.

The information requested by the Deputy is not available in my Department. The Teaching Council is the body with statutory responsibility for the registration of teachers.
According to current Teaching Council data, the number of teachers registered in the Primary Sector is 43,084 and the number in the Post Primary Sector is 42,271. Teachers may be registered in more than one Sector.
