The Government announced funding of €30 million under a new Town and Village Renewal Scheme on 23 September 2015. This new Scheme is part of a concerted effort to support the economic development of rural towns and villages, not only as a component of a broader approach to rural development but also to improve the environment of rural dwellers in a way that will increase their quality of life and simultaneously support potential economic activity in their areas. The initiative will be channelled through the local authorities and details of the eligibility criteria and the application process will be available over the coming weeks. In relation to the project referred to in the Question, this project, if supported by the local authority and local community, may be eligible for funding under the new Scheme. However, it should be noted that primary responsibility in relation to projects of the kind referred to rests with my colleague, the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport.
