The improvement and maintenance of regional and local roads is the statutory responsibility of each local authority, in accordance with the provisions of Section 13 of the Roads Act 1993. Works on those roads are funded from local authorities' own resources supplemented by State road grants.  The initial selection and prioritisation of works to be funded is also a matter for the local authority. I understand that Kerry County Council is in the process of assessing what actions are required in the area. While preliminary contact has been made with my Department, Kerry County Council has not put forward proposals for consideration as yet.  While all available funding for this year has now been allocated, my Department will consider any funding request received in the context of the overall end of year position this year and the outlook for next year.
