550. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills the reason for the delay in processing a teacher (details supplied) in County Mayo's Teaching Council registration; if she will intervene with the Teaching Council to request that this application will be processed without delay; and if she will make a statement on the matter. As the Deputy will be aware, since 2006, under the Teaching Council Act 2001, the Teaching Council is the regulator and standards body for the teaching profession. The Council is also the competent authority for the recognition of qualifications under EU Directive 2005/36/EC. The Council is independent in the exercise of these functions.

The issue raised is an operational matter for the Teaching Council and should be taken up directly with it.
