1377. To ask the Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government his plans to reverse, in the forthcoming budget, the trend of high road tax which is the highest in Europe and drastic depreciation of motor vehicles in view of the fact that this is imposing considerable financial burdens on motorists and businesses and is contributing to the closure of garages and subsequent loss of employment; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Changes to motor tax rates are generally considered in the context of the national budgetary process and it, therefore, would not be appropriate to comment further on the matter at this time.
