The licence application referred to by the Deputy was considered in the normal way by my Department under the provisions of the Fisheries (Amendment) Act 1997 and the Foreshore Act 1933. Statutory and public consultation on the specifics of the application took place fully in accordance with the applicable legislation. A full screening assessment of the application was carried out in accordance with the EU Environmental Impact Assessment Directives. This included consideration of all environmental aspects including public access to recreational and other activities on the beach.

The application was also screened for compliance with the EU Directives governing Birds and Habitats.
