To ask the Minister for Social Protection if and when a relevant social welfare payment will be restored in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Carlow, all of whose payments have ceased except child benefit, given that the person has received no other payment for the past three months and is now about to be evicted by the person's landlord due to rent arrears; if the matter will be urgently reviewed to alleviate hardship; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The Social Welfare Appeals Office has advised me that the one parent family payment and the supplementary welfare allowance appeals from the person concerned were referred to an Appeals Officer who has decided to convene an oral hearing in this case.

Every effort will be made to determine the appeals as quickly as possible and I understand that the person concerned will be notified shortly of the arrangements for the oral hearing which is likely to take place within the next two weeks.

The Social Welfare Appeals Office functions independently of the Minister for Social Protection and of the Department and is responsible for determining appeals against decisions in relation to social welfare entitlements.
